Germany states map quiz overview
The Germany states map quiz asks you to find all 16 German states on the map. It focuses on regional position, compact borders, and the difference between large states such as Bavaria and smaller city-states such as Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen.
What makes Germany different
Germany's federal states are packed into a relatively compact map. Some are large and easy to anchor, while others are small or surrounded by larger neighbors, so close attention to regional clusters matters.
What you will practice
- Identify all 16 German states by position
- Separate neighboring states in western and central Germany
- Remember the city-states of Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen
Study tips
Start with Bavaria in the southeast, Baden-Wurttemberg in the southwest, North Rhine-Westphalia in the west, and Lower Saxony in the north. Then fill in the central and eastern states around those anchors.
The city-states are small but important. Practice Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen separately so they do not disappear among the larger surrounding states.
Common mistakes
Players often confuse Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, or mix up the smaller states in the west. Regional repetition is the best way to make those borders feel familiar.
Timed and untimed practice
Use untimed rounds for learning the compact central map. Timed rounds help you move from careful recognition to fast recall.
