Restore Germany’s 16 states
This quiz removes a random set of German federal states from the map color. Use the surviving boundaries and neighboring Länder to identify each gap, then type its English name to restore it.
City-states change the scale
Berlin, Bremen, and Hamburg are much smaller than states such as Bavaria or Lower Saxony. A complete scan therefore needs two passes: first the broad regional shapes, then the compact city-state locations.
Build north-south anchors
- Start with Schleswig-Holstein in the north and Bavaria in the southeast.
- Use North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony to organize the west and center.
- Group Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and Brandenburg before separating them.
What randomized gaps teach
Different omissions force you to approach the federal map from new directions. That makes repeated rounds useful for turning state names, positions, and borders into one connected picture.
