Italy regional capitals map quiz
Match the capitals of Italy's 20 regions with the correct regions on the map. The game connects familiar cities with the administrative geography of the country.
Begin with well-known pairs
Link Lazio with Rome, Lombardy with Milan, Tuscany with Florence, Veneto with Venice, Campania with Naples, Sicily with Palermo, and Sardinia with Cagliari. These familiar cities provide a strong starting framework.
Practice the less obvious capitals
Learn Piedmont–Turin, Aosta Valley–Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol–Trento, Friuli Venezia Giulia–Trieste, Liguria–Genoa, Emilia-Romagna–Bologna, Umbria–Perugia, Marche–Ancona, Abruzzo–L'Aquila, and Molise–Campobasso.
Complete the south with Apulia–Bari, Basilicata–Potenza, and Calabria–Catanzaro. Say both the region and capital after each answer to strengthen the association.
Complete the central and Adriatic pairs
Lazio–Rome and Tuscany–Florence are familiar, but Marche–Ancona, Umbria–Perugia, Abruzzo–L'Aquila, and Molise–Campobasso often require more repetition. Use the Adriatic coast to place Ancona and L'Aquila in sequence, then separate inland Perugia from coastal Rome.
Turn city knowledge into map knowledge
Knowing a capital's name is only the first step: the answer requires the location of its region. Practice one geographic group at a time and point to the region while saying the pair aloud. After a wrong answer, review the neighboring regions as well as the city. Timed rounds are most useful after all 20 associations are accurate without guessing.
